We also ask our feet to absorb two to three times our body weight with each stride. Studies find that the normal runner lands about 90 strides per minute, but my experience with ultrarunning reveals a slower average because of walking and fatigue the above estimate includes that difference. This number doesn’t change much with a slower pace, it just takes a lot more strides to finish the race, or training run.
